Edson - Tatame Article
Monday, November 30, 2009
The original article was in Portuguese, here is the English translation:
Junior has lived in the US for 10 months. He recently had his third MMA fight. It was with the event Renaissance MMA, New Orleans, on November 20th. With a record of three fights and three victories, two coming fromKO's and one for submission. Junior had previously defeated Lee King to earn the championship belt. This fight was a re-match that was requested by King to try and win the belt back. Lee King had a substantial MMA record and experience against known fighters as Roger Huerta, Sean Sherk and Melvin Guillard.
In the first fight between the two, Júnior defeated the weight class Champion, Lee King with a knock-out in Round 2. Now, the Brazilian accepted the re-match putting the belt on the line and winning this time with a submission.
The fight started with with Lee King going for the takedown but Júnior kept him away with strong kicks and punches. It made it very difficult to King to take the fight to the ground. The Brazilian defended all of the attempted takedowns by King and finished the fight with his Jiu Jitsu when it finally did hit the ground. He finished the fight with an Anaconda choke. He successfully defended his title and retained the championship belt.
"The fight was good, I could work my ground game, I had some good ground and pound, and still finish the fight with a submission in first round. It was good to not only feel prepared with my standup but also in the Jiu-Jitsu, I have been training my BJJ since coming here to the United States", said Júnior.
The Brazilian wanted to not only thank those who are helping him develop here in the United States, but also those that had always been present in his rise in the MMA and the growth of his fight career. "I want to thank in first place the God. After that Joe, for all support that he has given me here in U.S.A., my family, to my master, Anderson France, to my professors of Jiu-Jitsu, my friends of Brazil and to the partners of trainings, Rafael Chavez and Eduardo Guedese, and to Pablo Popovitch, that also helped me very much. Also to all of those at the academy The Armory for the support", I am thankful.

Fun Family Event Benefitting D/S Felipe Jose & Family
Tuesday, October 06, 2009
Current Deputy and Retired Jupiter Police Officer Felipe Jose was stunned with the news that he would have to undergo emergency heart surgery. While enroute to see their father in the hospital, Stephanie Jose and Jackie Jose were involved in a car crash that tragically took Stephanie Jose's life. This event is being dedicated to benefit the Jose Family in their time of need, and in memory of Stephanie Jose.

Tickets can be purchased at Roger Dean Stadium now until the date of the event or through:
D/S Harry Thomas (561) 445-7977
Sgt Steven Strivello (561) 254-4715
or contact the PBSO Special Events Unit for tickets
Ticket Price Includes:
Game Admission, Silent Auction, Bounce Houses, Games, Raffle Prizes!
Celebrity Appearances by several TBA Major League Baseball Legends/Stars
And Much More!!
There are many members of the Armory who have been here for years that will know Felipe Jose and his family. Felipe is arguably one of the reasons The Armory is here today! When I first moved to the Jupiter area, Felipe had a martial arts school in Jupiter and invited me to come train. There I met Felipe, Scott Duquette, John Benegas and Todd Alofs. (By the way, Todd Alofs was in a very gay black gi...doing Kenpo katas at the time....it was very very disturbing.)
Felipe was a Police Officer at the time in the Town of Jupiter. He also had some other things at the time going on and running a martial arts school at the time was challenging so he was not able to keep
the school open. Somehow, he talked me into opening a small 1,000 sq ft. training facility in Jupiter... and that’s how The Armory came to be.
Felipe was instrumental in the early days of The Armory in coordinating construction, teaching classes, delivering Chinese food....whatever needed to be accomplished. Stephanie and Jackie were also here quite a bit during those times as well. Helping with painting, cleaning... whatever needed to be done. They were great kids and always a huge help.
If you are able to attend the Charity Event on Thursday, October 29th, please do.
If you can help in another way...please let me know. There will be a silent auction, if you can donate something that you think may help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Hope to see you there!!!!
Joe
